This volume contains the proceedings of two of the sessions of the Fourth Dharma Association of North America (DANAM) conference held at the site of the American Academy of Religion (AAR), in Washington DC, 17–19 November 2006.  The two sessions dealt with the topics of the Challenges in Translating Classical Hindu Texts and Adhikara in Dharma Diaspora. Both sessions revolved around epistemic issues. Speakers in the first session addressed the complexities of translation itself, though it centered exclusively on translating the Bhagavad Gita. The second half of the volume is comprised of essays concerning adhikara, authority, in diasporic Hinduism.
